As we all know Android is an Operating System, by Google, mainly for mobile devices like cell phones, tablet computers and notebooks. It works based upon Linux kernel and GNU software. And the surprise is that you may run Google’s Android OS on your PC, just by using a flash drive. It will help you not only to know the operation of Android but also to test it. Here I am going to give you the procedure. It runs really fast on real hardware. Personally, I was mesmerized by seeing it work.

How to Install the Android On a Flash Drive

At the very beginning make sure that you have a USB flash drive inserted into your PC with at least 250MB free space. For next step what you have to do is to download Android OS from the given link. Download Android.

After opening the download page scroll down and just click view under the android-x86-1.6-r2.iso entry from “StableRelease” part to start the downloading (as shown in given screen-shot).

After that you have to download one more application to boot it from flash drive. To download this application click here. download UNetbootin. The Windows users and Linux users have their separate link to download  UNetbootin.

After all the downloads have been completed next step is to make a boot-able flash drive. For this task Run UNetbootine. The window will look like the given screen-shot. Click on the bullet for Diskimage and select the downloaded Android ISO file. After this select right flash drive or pen drive.and click OK. Follow the screen-shot.

This will copy Android OS files to your pen drive within few seconds.

After the completion of the process it will ask to Reboot or Exit. If you wish to Run Android  then and then just click on reboot. Otherwise click Exit, so that you may try it later using your Android boot-able Flash drive.

You may also use CD/DVD to boot with Android OS. You can do it by just burning the ISO to a CD/DVD using Windows Disk Image Burner(Download) and do it. You may also store it easily in your hard disk.

Use Android Os on your PC

Now you are capable to use the Android OS  anytime in your PC.What you have to do is to reboot your system after inserting the boot-able flash drive in it and boot from the particular pen drive. As all the computer don’t boot automatically using flash drive you may need to initiate the booting process by pressing F2, F10 or any other key depending in your PC’s Bios configuration.

While installing from USB devise Select “Live CD-Run Android-x86 without installation”.

Within few second a text prompt will appear when Android begins to load.

Then comes the boot screen. Android’s booting process is really so fast that within a few second you will see amazing Android desktop on your PC.

After the home screen comes you will see few application on the front screen for quick access. For more  Option you have to open menu. You have to just click and hold to open add desktop widget, change desktop background and more such in context menu.

You may press right-click to open a menu(as like as you are opening a new tab in your browser).

For a single Android running session, installing new applications including AppStore is also  possible with it. After rebooting once you cant access them and can only see the default. I hope this problem will shortly be cured in next version.

The Menu structure of that OS is also very stylish. After clicking the right most button of the desktop screen the menu comes and hide by clicking the same button.

All of the hardware of  most of the PCs’, including the Wi-Fi and cameras are supported by Android X86. In my testing I found every part of my PC working properly without any problem. But may be some of your PCs’ or few hardware of your PC  like camera or Wi-Fi card may not work in the OS for unable in hardware detection problem. Here I am giving you a link to check whether you PC is supported to it  or not.

Its boots in less than 10 second. You may use it (as an alternate to Puppy Linux) to get online quickly and securely as it works really very good for normal internet browsing (I have personally tested it).

Though most part of Android worked really well in my testing but I have found some drawbacks of it. When I tried to shut down it worked slowly and even made the mouse feel jerky. You can install it in you hard drive but considering the limitation I would not suggest you to do so. At first try it by a USB flash drive then if you like it, you may think  about. Overall, it is very funky to use and  adventurous enough when installing. It works really fast  and as you are installing it in a external USB flash drive no chance to mess up anything, so don’t worry and go ahead to try it for a kind of fun or research and how knows you may like it and start to use it in a regular basis.
